Position Summary:

The Public Affairs Coordinator provides administrative, research, writing, and other support to the Government and Public Affairs Team. The Public Affairs Coordinator will assist on projects including federal advocacy efforts and the development of legislative and regulatory resources for members. This position will report to the Senior Manager, Communications and Public Affairs, but also have responsibilities within the area of government and regulatory affairs and have a dotted line reporting to the Director of Government Affairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and draft articles for the CEO Update, e-newsletter, blog, or other relevant publications
  • Support federal legislative, regulatory, and grassroots activities
  • Monitor and research federal legislative and regulatory proposals
  • Assist in media relations, including preparing press releases, talking points, and briefings
  • Produce and maintain communications and advocacy materials, including factsheets and infographics
  • Take and distribute minutes at internal AOPO meetings and committee meetings
  • Facilitate communication of government affairs news to AOPO members
  • Provide daily operational support for AOPO’s public and government affairs team members
  • Assist with various other public affairs projects and other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • College degree in communications, public health, public policy, political science, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in public affairs, government relations, or a related field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Openness to adapting to new technology
  • Excellent professional communication skills, including verbal, written and listening
  • A track record of successful multi-tasking in a fast-paced and professional environment while meeting deadlines with a high attention to detail
  • Ability to follow through on assigned tasks with limited supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders and foster positive relationships
  • Ability to balance competing demands and timelines
  • Ability to conduct research, analyze data, and provide insights to inform strategies
  • Interest in advocacy, government relations, public affairs, and the organization’s mission

Salary range: $50,000-$60,000 based on experience
