Michael J. Mortiz, MD, F.A.C.S.
Michael J. Moritz, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a transplant surgeon, donation advocate, and researcher in the fields of donation and post-transplant pregnancies. He is an abdominal transplant surgeon with more than 30 years experience. As a surgeon, he initiated and built or rebuilt kidney liver and pancreas transplant programs. Most recently, he directed the programs at Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania from 2005-2022, more than quadrupling the volume. He is cofounder and the Principal Investigator of the Transplant Pregnancy Registry International, the worldwide data repository for the experiences of pregnancy after transplantation. The TPRI has published over 100 peer reviewed publications plus many in the lay press, providing reliable, data-driven information to guide transplant recipients and their caregivers in decision-making around the topics of pregnancy and breastfeeding after transplantation. For more than 10 years, he has been the Medical Director for Gift of Life Donor Program, one of the US’s leading organ procurement organizations, which regularly leads the U.S.A. in organ donors and organs transplanted from a population base of 11 million. He has been a passionate supporter of organ and tissue donation in all his professional and volunteer roles throughout his career.
