My mother Sharon was 69 years old when she became a cornea and tissue donor. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. A month before she passed away my mother and father celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.
In 2020 while driving home from a family vacation my mom started to choke and went into cardiac arrest. She was too tired to recover from it. My mother had many underlying health issues, so we never spoke about organ donation. When the representative from Carolina Donor Services called me, she was so kind and informative about cornea and tissue donation. My mother was the type of person that would help anyone she could. It just made sense to me that she would donate what she could.
