Savanna was the definition of a wild child. She had the ability to make everyone in the room with her laugh. Savanna was a devoted mother of her six year old son Hunter, who was truly the light of her life. Being a mom was Savanna’s dream come true. I’m so grateful she was able to have her dreams fulfilled. One morning, I went to wake Savanna up for breakfast. I had made her favorite breakfast. Unfortunately, Savanna was unresponsive. I immediately called the ambulance, and we rushed to Charleston General, where we learned she had suffered brain damage and, after 2 surgeries and 9 days in the hospital, was on a ventilator. We decided that long term ventilation was not what Savanna wanted, and Savanna was the kind of person who would truly do anything to help another person, so we decided to donate her organs, cells, and tissues. Losing my daughter has truly been a pain I could have never prepared for, but knowing she helped so many people, she gave sight back to two people just by donating her corneas alone. It’s a beautiful blessing to have such wonderful things come from the worst tragedy of my life. My family and I are beyond grateful to Core for being such a comfort in this terrible time.
