Murphy was a healthy, active 28-year-old when he went out for his morning run and suffered a massive LAD heart attack with no warning. After a heroic week-long battle in the hospital, doctors informed his family his brain would never recover from the damage it suffered. It was at that point the family knew Murphy would want to donate his organs, and his organ donor registration confirmed this. Murphy was able to save four lives; two pediatrics each receiving a heart valve, and two men each receiving a kidney. His corneas will provide sight to two individuals. His liver and duodenum were given for medical research. And his bone and tissue donation will heal upwards of 80 individuals. Murphy had a heart of gold and made everyone around him laugh constantly and feel welcomed. He had many interests including Michigan football, Tom Brady, skiing, and more. He is greatly missed by the many who loved him, but leaves behind a heroic legacy his loved ones will always take pride and comfort in.
