April is recognized as National Donate Life Month—a time to raise awareness about the lifesaving impact of organ and tissue donation. For our community, this year carries a deeper meaning as we remember and honor the life of Lauri Studer, a woman whose final act was one of extraordinary generosity.
Lauri was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She found joy in life’s simple, meaningful moments—time spent with family, quiet hours with a good book, evenings outdoors, and a competitive game of cards around the table. She also shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Honey, who rarely left her side.
Her passing came unexpectedly. Yet even in the midst of grief, Lauri’s story did not end—it transformed into one of hope.
Through organ donation, Lauri was able to give the gift of life to others. In a moment of profound loss, her decision—and her family’s strength in honoring it—created the possibility of healing for individuals and families they may never meet. It is a powerful reminder that even in our darkest moments, light can still break through.
For her children, Melissa and Steven, and all who loved her, there is comfort in knowing that her legacy continues—not only in memories shared, but in lives extended. Her compassion did not end with her passing; it lives on in a deeply tangible way.
