My husband knew the importance of donating organs because he was lucky enough to receive 2 kidney transplants. The first one in 1990 he was on dialysis for 1 1/2 years waiting for a kidney. The 2nd one in 1999 he was on dialysis for over 4 years before his transplant. Most people don't realize how much having dialysis takes from you time and how worn out it makes you feel. It is like a part time job. Though it all he kept working and had a very positive attitude. He was always willing to take the time to help others when needed.

He often said they he wished he could donate is organs when he passed but didn't think he could with the medications he was on. When he passed I was surprised when they came to talk to me about donations. We never thought about being able to donate skin and corneas. Of course with no hesitation I said yes.

Later I found out that he was able to donate his corneas. I am so glad and I know that he is too.

Something my husband always said to others he would talk with because of his health issues is to please live your life for today because you may not have a tomorrow.
