As a mom, there will never be enough words to explain how proud I am of my son, Garrett. At just 15 years old, he lived with more heart, more laughter and more love than most people experience in a lifetime.

Garrett was a bright light in this world — funny, sharp, caring and full of life. His smile was unforgettable, and his ability to lift others up came so naturally. He loved baseball from the time he was just three years old, and he poured everything into the game. His dream was to go pro, not for fame, but so he could take care of his family while doing what he loved most.

Just two weeks before his 16th birthday, Garrett and his dad, Joe, were tragically taken from us in a car accident. Losing them both shattered our hearts. But even in the heartbreak, Garrett showed his true character — he held on long enough to give others a second chance at life. Through the gift of organ donation, he saved seven people of all ages. That final act of giving was a reflection of who he was every day — selfless, kind, and full of love.

Garrett leaves behind a family who loves him more than words can say. He was a brother to five sisters and two brothers, each of whom adored him deeply. And he was loved not only by me, but also by Joe’s wife, Angel — a woman who loved and cared for him every bit as much as I do. He had the love of two moms, and that love will never fade. Angel is also part of our family now. We love and appreciate everything she does for our family, and together, she and I were both Garrett’s mothers.

Garrett’s spirit extended far beyond himself. He was a son, a brother, an uncle, a cousin, a nephew and a teammate — but now, he’s also our hero. I believe with all my heart that his dad was waiting to welcome him into Heaven, preparing a place for him. And I believe Garrett is still with us — everywhere we go, in every laugh, every game, and every moment that reflects the joy he brought into the world.

We miss him endlessly, but we are so proud of his life and the legacy he leaves behind. Garrett will always be our real-life superhero.
