My late husband, James S. Drew, became an organ donor after his unexpected death from a brain aneurysm in May of 2001. Six people received his organs and his pancreas went for islet cell research. I heard back from 3 of his recipients, which was a bittersweet but also uplifting experience. Even after 23 years, I am grateful that I made the decision to donate Jim's organs; I know he would have approved this move to help other people with his gifts upon his passing.
