My sister, Danielle, tragically lost her life after a series of strokes and multiple artery bypass brain surgeries while battling Moyamoya disease, a rare, progressive cerebrovascular disorder which caused her arteries to seal close. My sister cared deeply for people and she ultimately passed away under the care of the same hospital system, Atlantic Health in NJ, that she worked. The disease only impacted her brain and it was discovered that her vital organs were pristine. Through the donation of her organs, my sister saved 6 lives, restored sight to 2 others, and through her bone/tissue donations, countless others will regain mobility. Although we lost my sister at the young age of just 33 years old, she lives on through the many others that she granted the gift of life through her organ donations. My sister gave the most precious gifts that any one human being could ever give to others. I am super proud of her. She's a true hero!
