Alex registered to be an organ donor when he got his first drivers license. He wasn’t fully aware of what that meant, but I explained it to him, and as any typical teenager would do, he agreed to sign the back of his license unaware of how significant that action would later become. Alex passed away in my arms at the age of 23 due to a misdiagnosed bacterial infection which resulted in a brain aneurysm that burst and killed him. He was kept alive long enough to locate the people who needed the five organs he would donate. I miss my son so very much but am happy to know that somewhere five people are alive thanks to him.
