Finley Peter Sosinsky came into this world as a big, beautiful baby, surrounded by an amazing amount of love. From the moment he entered this world, Finley brought with him a zest for life and an inquisitive nature that was unmatched.
To know Finley was to love him and to wonder how so many words could come out of such a small human, so quickly, and without taking many breaths. He had a contagious grin that could brighten the darkest room and a sense of humor that was irresistible. He was the kind of kid who played hard, worked harder, and loved with his whole heart—humans and animals alike.
Finley was always a pretty easy-going and joyful kid and his last summer was no exception. He had truly been living his best life, surrounded by his favorite people. He filled his days with adventures on the farm, improving his basketball skills, riding rides at the fair, gushing over the girl he had a crush on, learning to drive tractor, watching Stranger Things, and really starting to come into himself.
From the time he was little, Finley had always been a helper. It didn’t hurt that he figured out early on that doing a little extra–especially without being asked–would come in handy when he asked for something later. As he got older you could see him really starting to light up when he was asked to help and by last summer it had become a core part of his identity. He was someone you could count on for assistance with any number of jobs and it filled him with a great sense of pride to know he was useful and his particular skill set–which often involved a mix of humor, optimism, and a heavy dose of patience–was exactly what was needed for the task. So when we were given the opportunity to continue Finley’s legacy of being a helper by letting him become an eye and tissue donor–it was an easy yes.
Finley left this world how he came in—enveloped in an abundance of unconditional love. Though his time with us was far too short, the impact he made was immeasurable. We will miss his essence, his laugh, his ear tests—but most of all, the beautiful, kind-hearted, and goofy boy he was. Finley’s energy continues to be felt by so many and we know that he would be so proud of being able to continue being a human who gives of himself to others.
