My son was born in 1998 as a micro preemie weighing just 1 lb 6.6 ounces. Hes been healthy most of his life except he developed retinopathy of prematurity and has had poor vision his whole life. In Jan 2022, he had to have his right eye removed. My mother was his greatest champion and had said she wished she could donate her eye for him but because of her health she didnt feel she would ever qualify as a donor. When she died suddenly at our home in November 2022. We were devastated. But later that night we received the call she could be an eye and tissue donor. My sister and I both knew immediately that this was something she would have been so happy to do and would have loved it. While we don’t know the recipients, we know her gift, her final blessing,  went on to help so many people and she is smiling down because she made a difference.
