AOPO Statement on OPO Transition in South Florida
McLean, VA (January 8, 2026) – Today, the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that Nevada Donor Network has been selected to assume responsibility for organ procurement services in the Southern Florida Donation Service Area, which encompasses 7 million people across six counties in Florida and the Bahamas. This service area is currently managed by Life Alliance Organ Recovery Agency, which is undergoing decertification by CMS.
The Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) will continue supporting Life Alliance and Nevada Donor Network during this transition and encourages CMS officials to work seamlessly with both OPOs through this period to ensure organ donation and transplantation services in the region remain uninterrupted. Donors, patients, and their families nationwide depend on our OPO community, hospital partners and federal regulators to protect and strengthen this critical system that creates hope and healing every day.
Millions of people are alive today thanks to the generosity of organ donors and their families. Each person who becomes an organ, eye and tissue donor can save up to eight lives and heal more than 75.
We encourage everyone to learn more and consider signing up as an organ, eye, and tissue donor. You can register today by visiting RegisterMe.org.
