AOPO Commends Reps. Van Duyne, DelBene, Miller and Costa’s Leadership in Streamlining Organ Donation

The Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) applauds Representatives Beth Van Duyne (R-TX), Suzan DelBene (D-WA), Carol Miller (R-WV) and Jim Costa (D-CA) for introducing a bill yesterday that will help save more lives and honor more organ donor legacies by improving communications between hospitals and organ procurement organizations (OPOs).

H.R. 4470, The Removing Burdens From Organ Donation Act, will streamline and automate hospital notifications about potential donors to OPO. This proposed modernization would expedite the evaluation and coordination process in organ donation, allowing the system to maximize each opportunity to save more lives. As more than 100,000 Americans await life-saving transplants, system efficiency and enhanced collaboration are vital. AOPO commends the leaders of the Congressional Organ Transplant Caucus and the Congressional Kidney Caucus and fully supports opportunities to advance the U.S. organ donation and transplantation system.
