What is Lifebanc?

 

Lifebanc, is the federally designated organ, eye and tissue recovery organization that serves 20 counties in Northeast Ohio. Put simply, we facilitate and coordinate organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation in our community and educate the public on the importance of our mission. Position Description:

 

The Organ Administrator on Call (OAOC) will support the mission, vision, and values of Lifebanc by serving as a clinical leader during their scheduled OAOC shifts. The OAOC will assume direct responsibility for the clinical decision making on every donor consult made to Lifebanc during their assigned shift.

The OAOC will be responsible for the direct oversight of the daily clinical operations related to organ donation within Lifebanc’s donor service area. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to staff deployment, resource utilization, communication with onsite clinical staff, collaboration with other members of the Lifebanc team and external partners, ensuring that Lifebanc is following regulatory policies and procedures throughout each step of the donation process and ensuring the successful outcome of every donor case on their assigned shift.


Essential Functions:

 

Performs all job responsibilities of an Organ Administrator on Call:

  • Assumes 30% -35% OAOC
  • Provides availability beyond that of a typical work week to include nights, weekends and holidays and take call in 24-hour increments.
  • The OAOC will make critical decisions regarding staffing, utilization of resources, case management, allocation and providing real time constructive feedback as well as education to clinical staff.
  • In conjunction with Lifebanc’s medical director’s the OAOC will screen potential donors for the suitability of donation after brain death and circulatory death based on the information provided by onsite clinical
  • Evaluates donor record, including authorization/disclosure, donor risk assessment interview (DRAI), hospital charting, plasma dilution, and other available documentation to determine suitability of organs for recovery, research, and transplantation.
  • Leads donor huddles to ensure all relevant recovery information is communicated and teams have resources available for active and pending
  • Determines donor suitability for transfer to
  • Assist with coroner communication, advocating for donation, when
  • Effectively help guide clinical staff though the implementation of standard organ donor management goals as well as help direct donor management in conjunction with Lifebanc’s medical director.
  • Oversees all logistical operations for organ donation cases during their assigned shift.
  • Effectively provide the onsite clinical staff with direct support and guidance on how to handle new and difficult situations that they may be
  • Work in collaboration with the Family Support Coordinator III to determine the optimal time to approach families for organ donation.
  • Work with Hospital Services to help maintain good hospital relations as well as work through hospital barriers in real time during cases

Participates in quality improvement and research activities:

  • Participates in ongoing case review to ensure processes are followed, determine areas or data trends that require process or performance improvement, and identify best practices to maximize of donor
  • Monitor and review available reports to ensure metrics are being met or

 

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in nursing, respiratory therapy, or related biological science preferred and
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as a Procurement Transplant Coordinator or minimum of 5 years of transplant clinical experience

 

Certification and license:

  • Active current license/certificate pursuant to required education and
  • BLS and ACLS required; certification must be approved by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC)

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

 

  • Performs all knowledge, skills, and abilities of an OAOC
  • Self-directed, self-confident, self-motivated, results oriented; demonstrates initiative and problem-solving capability; ability to operate independently and as a team member with a full spectrum of clinicians.
  • Must be able to participate in a variable 24-hour call schedule including weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to adjust schedule to accommodate organizational needs including times of high clinical volume.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrates use of critical thinking skills
