About the Supervisor, Donor Legacy

The Supervisor, Donor Legacy is passionate about organ and tissue donation and dedicated to achieving primary objectives of providing the utmost care and support to potential donor families, obtaining authorization from families for organ, tissue and eye donation. Ensuring that First Person Authorizations are articulated meaningfully to family members to carry out the donor’s own wishes and creating value for the potential donor families, DNA staff, health care professionals and the larger community.

Responsible for maintaining the standards of the department which include supporting families in crisis, ensuring family understanding and acceptance of death, explaining organ and/or tissue donation, obtaining authorization, obtaining medical/social history, assisting the donor family while at the hospital, and providing post-donation follow-up to the donor family.

Supports the Donor Legacy Advocates and related supervisory tasks such as scheduling, timekeeping, reimbursement approvals, etc. Provides real-time education, mentoring and support. Also performs Donor Legacy Advocate responsibilities directly as needed.

Participates with all members of DNA’s recovery, education staff and administration.

Provides oversight of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) training and documentation.

Makes recommendations on employment such as hiring, performance management, recognition, suggestions to improve working conditions, safety, etc.

Participates and gives insight into the strategic planning process.

Works with the After Care department staff to ensure seamless care for donor families.

Provides coverage for Advisor on Call (AOC) on an ongoing shared basis, a minimum of 7 days in a 28-day schedule.

Coordinates/collaborates with Organ Recovery Coordinator (ORC)/Advisor on Call (AOC) for daily assignments, with the possibility of reaching out to Clinical Risk Person.

Performs Legal Next of Kin (LNOK) and Accurint Searches.

Completes registry confirmations.

Reviews charting, progress notes and Authorization/Uniform Donor Risk Assessment Interview (UDRAI) paperwork.

Participates in all Objection Calls.

Assists with Annual Authorization Planning.

Attends and participates in weekly IPAR meetings.

Family support services: Ensures the conversation about donation is facilitated in a manner that respects the potential donor, reflects consideration of the most appropriate timing and context for the discussion, demonstrates sensitivity to relevant cultural, religious or other beliefs and values, conveys an understanding of interpersonal dynamics among those involved in the decision, and addresses all elements required to deem a decision informed.

Healthcare partners: Collaborates with the health care team to assist families in locating available assistance for personal, social, spiritual, and other needs, regardless of their decision about donation. Begin interaction with families, when appropriate, early in the process, a process that begins with the referral of the patient as a potential organ donor.

Education and Quality Assurance: Generates written reports on analysis of key donation process outcomes. Participates in quality assurance audit activities and outcome measurements related to donation.

Case Management: Responds appropriately to referrals from organ recovery staff. Maintains proper documentation on donor record. Participate in the on-going evaluation of referred potential organ donors. Completes a comprehensive medical/social history questionnaire, seeking information from the most appropriate individual(s), and ensures congruence between data collected in the interview and findings of a physical examination. Maintains proper documentation during the consent process and provides necessary data to maintain organization records. Provides donor family with follow up correspondence.

Professional Development: Maintains awareness of current health care literature concerning organ and tissue donation. Pursues continued professional development through formal educational programs and mentoring opportunities. Participates in the implementation of research designed to evaluate and improve clinical outcomes in organ and tissue donation.

Requirements

Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

Minimum Experience:
3 years of field experience. Chaplain Work, Counseling, Education, or Social Work

Preferred Experience: 3-5 years industry experience. Crisis and Conflict management.
