Kaitlyn was only 19 at the time of her tragic yet heroic passing. She made the selfless decision three years earlier (16 years old) to be a donor. Kaitlyn was pursuing a healthcare career with hopes of either medical school or being a physician assistant. She was currently working as a CMA at an assisted living and long-term care facility while attending college. She loved caring for others, and from the stories we received, her care recipients at the facility really enjoyed her passionate care.

In the early morning hours of May 2022, Kaitlyn witnessed a rollover accident on the highway. Her response was to pull over and assist. Unfortunately, while doing so, Kaitlyn was struck by an oncoming impaired motorcyclist. She fought hard, as did the medical team, but in May 2022, Kaitlyn went to be with Jesus. We honored her decision to be a DONOR and have felt great pride knowing she continues to help others in difficult circumstances.

On the day of the procedure, the transplant people called. We were able to be with Kaitlyn from her ICU room to the OR. As we walked the halls, the staff at Wesley Medical Center lined the walkways in quiet solitude to show their appreciation for the gift of life Kaitlyn is giving to others. They call it an Honor Walk. At the end of the walk, we kissed her and asked her to continue her work and for God to sustain life through her. We received the Hero Quilt that Midwest Transplant Network had her snuggled into, along with the flowers that the nursing staff had redone in her hair. This replicated what her sister had done for her in the hospital. Through many tears, we thanked the medical staff who fought hard to save our baby girl. We know their job is not easy, but we appreciate the passion they put in every day.

Kaitlyn is a beautiful life that was able to help sustain a 37-year-old female who needed a liver. We now also have donor information from the eye research bank and know that Kaitlyn was able to assist there as well. To God be the GLORY!
