My Husband of nearly 19 years, James S. Drew (5.20.1957-2001), became an organ donor after passing away from an unforeseen ruptured brain aneurysm that occurred on 2001. Six people received his major organs. Three of his recipients wrote to me to say ‘thank you’ for their second chance at a longer lifetime. Jim was a giving man and would have been well-pleased to know his wishes were honored. After 20 years of him being gone, I can still say that agreeing to donate Jim’s organs was the best decision made to mitigate the unexpected loss of his life, and helped me and my family to begin a healing process.
