AOPO Announces New Executive Director
New Guideline on Determining Brain Death Issued by American Academy of Neurology
The Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) strongly supports strict adherence to the American Academy of Neurology (AAN) guideline. We recognize that there have been previous flaws in the practice of the declaration of brain death, and we are advocating for the consistent application of the AAN criteria. Clinical practice needs to continually strive for improvement; we endorse this addition to our resources for the practice of medicine and look forward to ongoing improvement in the clinical criteria for the declaration of death by neurologic criteria.
